In the face of extreme weather events such as Hurricane Florence that caused catastrophic damage to more than 800 facilities and over $2 billion in unbudgeted repairs to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NAVFAC is institutionalizing modifications to current design standards or construction practices through updates to Unified Facilities Criteria. This panel discussion, featuring Rear Adm. Maria Aguayo, P.E., CEC, USN, Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Atlantic, will discuss the recently released Department of the Navy Climate Action 2030 and highlight resiliency criteria efforts that align with this strategy, including planning resiliency, energy resiliency, sea level rise resiliency, and resilient natural infrastructure.
