The countdown is on to the year’s premier event education and training event for the joint engineer community and A/E/C industry.
Coming to the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, May 23-25, the 2017 Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo, hosted by SAME, will bring together public and private sector professionals from the A/E/C industry and joint engineer community to share ideas, bridge gaps, harness capabilities, and develop solutions to challenges facing our national security, both at home and abroad.
JETC annually draws more than 1,600 attendees from throughout the uniformed services and the A/E/C industry, providing an open forum to help key individuals, organizations and companies collaborate in support of our warfighters and for the betterment of the nation.
The 2017 JETC will offer a variety of education, training and networking opportunities designed specifically for the joint engineer community and supporting A/E/C industry.
Connect. JETC will feature 70 hours of education and training sessions, including a Table Top Exercise, which invites government and industry to work together to plan, prepare, and execute a Humanitarian Assistance/ Disaster Response mission.
Support. Featuring Army veteran, Noah Galloway, and Air Force veteran Eileen Collins as keynote speakers, JETC will continue to support America’s veterans as we serve to provide education, training and networking opportunities to enhance their professionalism while in uniform and assist them for when they transition to the private sector.
Celebrate. As the Annual Meeting of SAME, the 2017 JETC will recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Posts, members, and military and industry professionals at the Society Leadership & Post Awards Breakfast and the Society Ball & Awards Gala, as well as introduce the new SAME National President, Col. Sal Nodjomian, P.E., F.SAME, USAF (Ret.), as he takes the reins on Thursday afternoon.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
The 2017 JETC will hold a record 70 hours of education and training opportunities for attendees to choose from. The sessions have been selected from a robust Call for Presentations that attracted more than 130 submissions from across the public and private sectors, and will address key issues impacting the federal A/E/C industry and the joint engineering community, both today and looking ahead. There are also leadership and business development offerings.

2017 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Col. Eileen Collins, USAF (Ret.) │ Opening Luncheon, May 23 • 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Renowned Pilot and Astronaut; First woman to command the Space Shuttle (Columbia, 1999)
Col. Eileen Collins, USAF (Ret.), has led an inspiring life of adventure, leadership, and achievement. A female trailblazer, and the first woman to pilot and command an American spacecraft, Collins was named an astronaut by NASA in 1990. She quickly went on to become the first female pilot on a space shuttle with the Discovery flight in 1995, and the first female commander on the 1999 Columbia flight. The Columbia mission sparked keen interest among women and landed Collins in the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York. For her final mission she commanded Space Shuttle Discovery’s historic “Return to Flight.” This was NASA’s first manned flight following the February 2003 loss of Columbia. During her NASA career, Collins was known for her calmness and cool demeanor under pressure, and logged 872 hours in space. One of America’s most admired women, Collins will share her extraordinary experiences as a test pilot, astronaut, and space flight commander with JETC attendees.
Noah Galloway │Opening General Session, May 24 • 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
U.S. Army Veteran Author; Living with No Excuses; Featured on Dancing with the Stars
Noah Galloway, just three months in to his second tour of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom, experienced a life changing injury. On Dec. 19, 2005, he lost his left arm above the elbow and left leg above the knee in an IED attack. He was transported to Germany to receive medical treatment, remaining unconscious for five days. Galloway woke up late in the evening on Christmas Eve to learn he lost two of his limbs and sustained severe injuries to his right leg and his jaw. After a long stint in recovery and rehabilitation at Walter Reed Medical Center, Galloway did what many disabled veterans do, becoming withdrawn, out of shape and depressed. The fitness fanatic and hyper competitive athlete was now drinking, smoking and sleeping his days away. But late one night, Galloway took a long look in the mirror and realized there was more to him than the injuries. And he set a goal to get back in shape, be healthier and inspire others. Now a personal trainer and motivational speaker, he encourages others to offer no excuses. Most recently, Galloway took third place on the hit show, Dancing with the Stars.

In addition to the education sessions and keynote speakers, JETC offers a tremendous variety of events throughout the week to enhance the value of attending—from exhibits to technical tours to awards presentations and more.
Joint Engineer Table Top Exercise
SAME will host the second annual Table Top Exercise at the 2017 JETC, featuring a PACOM-based Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response scenario. The exercise will bring together Joint and Service Engineer operators and planners from across all commands, along with industry representatives, to examine total engineer force capabilities and capacity to respond to the scenario’s requirements. Be a part of preparing our joint engineer community for the future at the influential event.
Engineering Service Chiefs Panel
The Engineering Service Chiefs will participate in a panel discussion centered on the key issues facing the A/E/C industry and military engineering community—including the capability gaps each service is facing, the technical needs and challenges of the future, and what may lie ahead with a new administration.
Tour the Horseshoe—Ohio Stadium
Go behind the scenes at Ohio Stadium, The Horseshoe, on a guided tour that takes you inside the storied history of Buckeye Football. You will have an exclusive look at some of the most treasured spaces in Ohio Stadium, which seats more than 104,000 people, including one of the nation’s largest collegiate press boxes and the $1.5 million Steinbrenner Band Center.
Opening Reception at the Center of Science and Industry
JETC’s Opening Reception will be held at the Center of Science and Industry, one of the most respected science centers in the nation—engaging more than 33 million people through on-site and off-site programs since 1964. The center inspires an interest in science, encouraging people to want to learn more about their world. During the reception, attendees will get to explore some of the fascinating exhibits at this world-renowned location.
Exhibit Hall Featuring the Innovative Product Theater
The JETC Exhibit Hall will feature more than 200 exhibitors, giving attendees an opportunity to discover cutting-edge services and capabilities across the A/E/C industry; lay the groundwork for teaming arrangements; and build a network of go-to contacts.
Society Leadership & Post Awards Breakfast
Honor the service and contributions of SAME members and Posts around the world, salute the achievements of the Top Posts and Top Region, and hear how SAME Committees & Councils are supporting the A/E/C and joint engineer communities.
Society Ball & Awards Gala
Walk the red carpet, and dine and dance with SAME members from across the country and invited guests at the 2017 Society Ball & Awards Gala. This formal event will also recognize the achievements of SAME Awards & Medal recipients, which will be presented during the evening.
New SAME President Induction
Preceding the Engineering Service Chiefs Panel on Thursday, May 25, Col. Sal Nodjomian, P.E., F.SAME, USAF (Ret.), will take the oath as the new National President of SAME from outgoing President Capt. Michael Blount, P.E., LEED AP, F.SAME, USN (Ret.).
